Questions people ask
If yours isn’t here, phone us. We’d rather answer it out loud than have you guess.
When exactly do you come?
In the fall, on a published schedule: cuts every two weeks, fertilizer and overseeding in September, cleanup in late October, eavestroughs after the leaves drop. In winter, automatically any time 5 cm or more falls, no phone call needed, and every client is cleared within 24 hours of the snow ending. Seniors with medical needs are first on the route.
Is the ridge at the end of the driveway really included?
Yes. Every visit, every storm. The city says that ridge is the homeowner’s responsibility, and most companies here charge extra for it or make it a premium tier. We think clearing your driveway means all of it.
How does billing work?
Monthly, by e-transfer or card, after the month’s work. No seasonal prepay, no contract lock-in. If we’re not doing a good job, you cancel and we shake hands.
What if I only want a few months?
Membership runs September through March, but it’s monthly billing and you can stop anytime, so join for the months that matter to you. Tell us what you need.
Who will be on my property?
The same one or two people, every time, and you’ll meet them before the first snow. Everyone carries a current police record check and is covered by our insurance.
Do you spray for weeds?
No. Fertilizer and grass seed only. Weed and insect control products legally require a licensed exterminator in Ontario, and we stay on the maintenance side of that line. If you need spraying, we’ll point you to a licensed provider.
My parents aren’t good with texts.
No problem. The photo can go to you instead, and your parents just see a cleared driveway. A phone call works too; we’re flexible about how people like to hear from us.
Is HST extra?
Yes. Prices are shown plus HST, the same way every other trade in town quotes. Your invoice shows the monthly amount, the 13% HST line and the total, so there is never a surprise at the bottom of the page.
What if my driveway or lawn is bigger than average?
The published prices are for a standard city lot — a one- or two-car driveway and a typical lawn. A double-wide or long driveway adds a flat $25 a month, and a really big property adds $50. That’s the whole list; there’s nothing else on top. We measure the lot and drive past before we quote you, so you know your exact price before you join, and it doesn’t change in the middle of a season.
How do I cancel?
Call us, or press the cancel button in your member portal. We stop at the end of the month you’re in and you pay for the work already done, nothing more. No retention calls, no hoops, no exit fee. We’d rather part on good terms and have you tell a neighbour we were fair.
What area do you cover?
Sault Ste. Marie for full memberships, and St. Joseph Island for Cottage Watch. If you’re a little outside those lines, call us anyway — if you’re near the route, we can usually make it work.
Can I see your insurance certificate?
Yes, and you should ask. We carry full liability coverage and we’ll email or hand you the certificate before your first visit. Anyone who won’t show you one shouldn’t be in your driveway.
What happens if you miss a storm?
Call us and we’ll be there. If we genuinely missed you, that month is on us — we’d rather eat the cost than have you wonder whether we’re reliable. It has to be the kind of promise you can test.
Do I have to be home?
No. Most people aren’t. We work around gates, dogs and parked cars — tell us once and we make a note of it — and the photo is how you know we came.
Can my daughter pay while the work happens at my house?
That’s one of the most common arrangements we have. The bill goes to whoever is paying, the service goes to the house, and the photo report goes to both of you.
